Publishing and failures

What each post status means

Every post is in exactly one of six states, and a few extra markers say when it is held, halted or waiting for a person.

Last updated
  1. Open Posts and use the tabs: Posted, Scheduled, Drafts, In approval, Rejected and Failed.
  2. Read the status chip on the post. It always has a word as well as a colour.
  3. Open the post for the status of each channel.

The six states

A post moves only along fixed routes, and Posted is written only when the platform has confirmed it.

Post statuses and what they mean
StatusWhat it means
DraftSaved, but not queued. Nothing will be sent until you schedule it.
ScheduledCleared to publish and waiting for its time.
PublishingBeing sent to the platform now.
PostedThe platform confirmed it.
ErrorIt failed with a reason you can read. See Why a post failed.
CancelledStopped before it went out; it will not be sent.

When a post is held

A held post is not lost; it is waiting for something, and the post says what.

Why a scheduled post can be held
What it saysWhat is going on
Waiting for review (Pending review)Someone must approve it first. See Review a post waiting for approval.
Safety reviewA destination such as Reddit or Discord asks for a review first, whatever your approval setting.
Publishing is stopped (Halted)Someone used the emergency stop. The post goes out when publishing is resumed.
Still held when its time passed (Halted)It was not published late. Reschedule it to send it.
Plan no longer covers the channel (Halted)The channel was switched off after a plan change; the post is held rather than lost.
Email not confirmed (Halted)Nothing publishes until the workspace email address is confirmed. The post goes out once it is.
Held, waiting its turnThe platform asked us to slow down; it goes out on its own.

When a post has several channels and only some went out, the post shows a summary such as "Published 1 of 2" with the channel that needs attention.

If it did not work

If a post looks stuck, open it and read the channel lines rather than the list row: the reason and the next action are on the post. A post is never left looking posted when it was not. For a failed one, go to Why a post failed; for one stopped on purpose, Stop all publishing.
