Connect LinkedIn

LinkedIn asks whether you are connecting your own profile or a Page you administer before it sends you to LinkedIn, because the answer sets the permissions requested.

  1. In NioConnect, open Channels, choose Add a channel, then LinkedIn.
  2. Answer What are you connecting? with My own LinkedIn profile or A Page I administer.
  3. Approve on LinkedIn's screen.
  4. Pick the author the posts should appear as. For a profile, the list holds exactly one entry.

Profile or Page

Posting as yourself and posting as an organization are two different sets of permissions on LinkedIn, fixed into the consent screen, so the choice cannot wait until after you approve.

The two LinkedIn options
OptionChoose it whenWhat LinkedIn asks you to approve
My own LinkedIn profilePosts should appear as you, the personPermission to post on your behalf, and nothing more
A Page I administerPosts should appear as the organizationThe above, plus permission to list and post as the Pages you administer

Pick the narrower option if you only ever post as yourself. To post as both, connect twice, once with each option.

Keeping it connected

LinkedIn access expires and has to be renewed, so a LinkedIn channel can show Connection expired and need Reconnect from time to time. Reconnecting is the same flow as connecting. Avoid two people pressing Reconnect on the same channel at the same moment, because LinkedIn renewal tokens are single use.

A LinkedIn "carousel" is a PDF document post, not a swipeable set of images; several images post as a multi-image post, and NioConnect tells you before you schedule rather than publishing something you did not compose.

If it did not work

If your Page is missing from the picker, you are not an administrator of it, or you chose the profile option. Check your role on the Page in LinkedIn, then reconnect with A Page I administer. If you picked the wrong option, the choice is fixed at connect time, so connect again and choose the other one.
