Composing and scheduling

Write a post for several channels

Write one post, tick every channel it should go to, and the composer checks it against each channel's own rules; give a channel its own version only where you need to.

  1. Choose Create Post in the sidebar.
  2. Select your channels. Each channel is a mark you click to add to the post ("Click to add to this post.") or remove from it.
  3. Write in the editor. The toolbar has Bold, Italic, Heading, Bulleted list, Numbered list, Link and Emoji, and Add media attaches pictures or video.
  4. Watch the previews and the Limits note. Each channel shows whether your text and media fit its rules.
  5. Choose Save draft, Post now or Schedule.

One text, checked per channel

Every platform counts characters and accepts media differently, so the same text can be fine for one channel and too long for another. The composer checks each selected channel and shows its own preview, so a problem is attached to the channel that has it. A channel that cannot take the media you attached is named, rather than left to fail later.

A channel whose connection has expired is flagged in the picker with "This channel will fail unless it is reconnected."

Give one channel its own version

Select a channel in the marks at the top and edit the text while it is selected, and that channel gets its own version. The shared post stays as it was, and other channels are not affected. A Restore to default pill appears over that channel's preview; press it, then confirm at "Are you sure?", and the channel follows the shared post again.

Some platforms have settings of their own, shown in the Platform post settings bar: a title for Reddit and Pinterest, a Who can see it choice for YouTube and TikTok, and Is this made for kids? for YouTube. A platform that requires one will not let you schedule until it is answered.

Start shared, fork late

Write the shared post first and only fork a channel when its rules or audience really differ. Fewer versions means fewer places for a mistake.

If it did not work

If scheduling is refused, the banner says "Some channels need attention before scheduling." and each affected channel shows its own message. Fix those, or take the channel out of the post. If a channel has the wrong text, check whether it is still on the shared post or has its own version.

Where a platform cannot carry something you added, the preview says so in plain words, for example that a platform does not carry image descriptions and the description stays on the file for the channels that take one. The guide to writing one post for several channels shows a worked example.
