Upload and organise media

Media Library stores each file once for the whole workspace; upload there, group files into folders and attach them to any post.

Last updated
  1. Open Media Library in the sidebar.
  2. Choose Upload, or drag files into the page. The upload tray shows progress.
  3. Make a folder with New folder, then select files and use Move to to file them. All media shows everything; Unfiled shows what is in no folder.
  4. In the composer, choose Add media to attach a file from the library.

What it accepts

The page states what your workspace accepts before you choose a file: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, MP4, MOV and WebM, up to a size per file that it shows. Files over a second size are uploaded straight to storage instead of through the app, and the page says that too. A file that is not accepted is refused with a sentence that names it.

A file is stored once. If you add one that is already in your media, it is attached instead of uploaded again: "That file is already in your media, so it was attached rather than uploaded again."

Working with a file

Select a file to open its details. Details shows its name, type, size, dimensions, when it was added and its folder; Used in lists the posts that use it. The file menu offers Open full size, Show details, Rename, Describe, Move to folder, Open original, Copy link and Delete.

Deleting asks first: "This removes them from your library. Files used by a post are kept." Deleting a folder moves its files to Unfiled; it does not delete them or affect posts that use them.

A copied link needs no sign-in

Anyone holding a file's link can open the file. Treat Copy link as sharing the file. The details also say whether embedded metadata such as capture location was removed from an image; videos are stored exactly as you sent them.

If it did not work

If an upload is declined, check the type and size line at the top of the page. If you cannot rename, describe or delete a file, your role may be read only for that action. An upload that stops can be stopped with Stop uploading in the tray and started again. If a channel cannot take a file you attached, the composer names the channel and the reason before you schedule.
