Composing and scheduling

Why a post failed

Every failed post carries one reason from a short fixed list, written as a sentence that also tells you what to do next.

Last updated
  1. Open the post from Calendar or Posts (its status reads Error, and it sits under Failed).
  2. Read the reason on the channel that failed. It names the cause and the next action.
  3. Do what it says: reconnect the channel, edit the post, replace the media, or wait.
  4. Use Retry (or Retry the failed channels) when retrying can help.

The reasons and what to do

There are ten, and a failure is never left as free text. A channel that failed does not affect the others in the same post.

Why a post can fail and the remedy for each
ReasonIn plain wordsWhat to do
Channel access expiredThe channel's access expired, so the post was not sentAn Owner or Admin reconnects the channel, then retries
Channel switched offThe channel was disabled, so the post was not sentAn Owner or Admin turns it back on, then retries
Channel disconnectedThe channel was disconnected, so the post had nowhere to goConnect that account again, then schedule the post to it
Not accepted as writtenThe platform would not take the post as written for that channelEdit it to something the platform allows and schedule again
Media rejectedThe media could not be prepared for that channel, so nothing was sentReplace the file and schedule again
Waiting its turnThe platform asked us to slow downNothing: it goes out on its own
Platform errorThe platform refused the post or could not take it just thenRetry sends it to the channels that failed
Over the posting limitThe workspace is over its plan's posting limit for this periodAn Owner can change the plan
No active subscriptionA payment failed and the grace period endedAn Owner restores the subscription; publishing resumes
Our sideSomething went wrong on our side, so the post was held rather than published incompleteRetry sends it again

Retries and the platform's own words

Only errors that can succeed later are retried automatically. A post that cannot succeed is not retried blindly; it tells you why. Where a platform gave a reason of its own, the post shows it, so you can see exactly what that platform objected to.

The full list of reasons

The reasons are explained at greater length in What happens when a platform rejects a post.

If it did not work

If a retry fails the same way, the cause is still there: check the channel on Channels for Connection expired, and check that the content still fits. If a post shows a reason you cannot act on, write to us with the channel and the time. A post that has not been confirmed by the platform is never left looking posted.
