Connect Bluesky

Bluesky has no consent screen for an app like NioConnect, so you connect with your handle and an app password you create yourself; it takes under a minute.

  1. In Bluesky, open Settings, then Privacy and Security, then App Passwords, and choose Add App Password.
  2. Name it something you will recognise, such as NioConnect, and copy the password. Bluesky shows it once.
  3. In NioConnect, open Channels, choose Add a channel, then Bluesky.
  4. Enter your handle or email in Handle or email and the password in App password, then connect.

Never paste your real password

Bluesky would accept it, which is exactly why this is worth saying: it works, and it hands over far more than the ability to post. An app password can be deleted on its own without touching your account, so use one. Create one per app and a revoke only affects the app you meant.

Once saved, the password is sealed and never shown again, to you, your teammates or us.

Your own server

NioConnect signs in against bsky.social. An account hosted on your own server is not connectable yet.

If it did not work

A rejected form usually means a typo in the handle (leave out the leading @) or an app password that was deleted. Open App Passwords in Bluesky and check the entry still exists.

If a channel that worked later says it needs reconnecting, the app password was revoked. Deleting an app password is meant to cut access, so this is the system working. Generate a new one and reconnect; A channel needs reconnecting shows how.
